Stir Fried Tilapia with Celery

Stir-Fried Tilapia with Celery is a comfort food with a mellow flavor and freshness with celery and ginger and yet it’s really simple to make. It can be both an appetizer and a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 250 g tilapia filet

  • 500 ml vegetable oil (for deep frying the Tilapia filet)

  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (for stir frying)

  • 4 tbsp tempura flour

  • 1 tbsp soy bean paste

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 3 tbsp water

  • 5 large cloves of garlic

  • 20 g ginger

  • 15 g red chili spur pepper

  • 30 g celery

  • 15 g spring onion

  • Jasmine rice (for serving)

Prepare

  1. Spring onion and celery, cut into 1-inch long pieces.

  2. Ginger and red chili spur pepper, cut fine julienne.

  3. Garlic, chopped.

  4. Tilapia filet, cut into bite-sized pieces.

PREP TIME : 10minutes

COOKING TIME :  15minutes

YIELD :  2 people

 

Stir Fried Tilapia with Celery

directions

  1. Coat the tilapia filet in the tempura flour. Then cook in hot oil for 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain in a colander.

  2. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a clean wok or large non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and stir fry until slightly yellow or until fragrant. Now add soy bean paste and stir fry for 30 seconds. Then add  light soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and water stirring, for 1-2 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Now add in the crispy tilapia, ginger, red chili spur pepper, celery, and spring onions, stir fry until well combined. Transfer to a plate and serve with Jasmine rice.
